Chaat Masala Recipe
Chaat is a term that describes a range of hot and tangy snacks. This Chaat masala is a mixture of spices whose combination creates this zingy flavor. Although this blend is sometimes used in cooking in northern India, it’s more often sprinkled over a salad or cooked vegetable dish as a garnish.

PREPARATION TIME: 5 MINUTES
MAKES 6 TABLESPOONS
|1 tbsp||coriander seeds|
|3 tbsp||cumin seeds|
|4 tbsp||mango powder (amchur)|
|fennel seeds||1½ tsp|
|1½ tsp||carom (ajwain, ajowai) seeds|
|3 tbsp||powdered black salt|
|1½ tsp||freshly ground black pepper|
|tsp ginger powder||1½|
|1||tsp dried powdered mint|
Method of Preparation:
Heat a flat griddle or frying pan on a medium heat. When the pan is hot, add the cumin, coriander and fennel seeds and toast until the seeds begin to turn a little darker and start to release their aromas. Chaat Masala Recipe
Stir often while toasting, to prevent the seeds from burning. Tip the toasted seeds on to a plate and leave to cool.
When they’re completely cold, put the seeds into a spice mill, coffee grinder or food processor. Add all the other ingredients and grind to a fine powder.
Store in an airtight container away from sunlight
